Shop For Ryobi 18V ONE+ Lithium-Ion 5-1/2" Cordless Circular Saw P503 (Bare tool only, battery and charger not included)

There is no way you would buy this saw unless you already happened to have a Ryobi 18V One+ battery. It is just too lightweight and there are relatively few cases where a corded circular saw wouldn't be the proper choice in terms of power and price value.

Having said that, I already had the batteries and I've found this saw reasonably useful in cutting the occasional board while building a child's play area. I'd have preferred more power, but it is able to cut wood up to an inch thick cleanly albeit slowly. The grip is comfortable and it was easy enough following a pencil line for cutting. The included blade is of good quality and the battery pack is conveniently located. Changing blades is a bit awkward, and it's a bit hard getting it tightened properly with the included hex key wrench.

I've found the Ryobi 18V One+ tools are of good quality and design, and would highly recommend the drills, impact drivers and even the reciprocating saw in the One+ collection, but there are limits to what a cordless tool can and should do and this circular saw is just on the line for marginal usefulness.Get more detail about Ryobi 18V ONE+ Lithium-Ion 5-1/2" Cordless Circular Saw P503 (Bare tool only, battery and charger not included).

RIDGID 130377001 24-Volt Li-Ion Battery

"Ridgid" makes very good products & I'm impressed with their line of 24 volt cordless tools...the batteries provide ample power but ;ofcourse, being rechargeable they only last so long (about 2 yrs.). If well maintained you may get 3 yrs.+. Make sure to "register" your batteries & ask for "lifetime battery replacement" from "Ridgid", if you buy a "combo kit" it comes w/lifetime "repair & replacement" of the tools & batt.'s , a very good thing to have if you use your tools as I do (construction), daily use! Ridgid is right up there with Milwaukee & Dewalt...even Hilti.Get more detail about RIDGID 130377001 24-Volt Li-Ion Battery.

Makita BHP451 LXT 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Hammer Drill/Driver Review

The Makita BHP451 is the top of the Makita 18 volt lithium-ion powered hand drill lineup and despite its 2 speed gearbox should provide great performance. Overall it is a very good drill but the chuck is not the best (compared to Bosch or DeWalt) and the speed ranges are also less than optimum. It has 0-450 and 0-1700. For most tasks a 0-600, 0-1000, 0-2000 options like the DeWalt DCD970/940 drills works much better. The Makita BHP451 has in effect a low ranges and moderate high range.

The drill chuck has significant runout for a new drill and not nearly as good as those from DeWalt, Milwaukee, or Bosch with Bosch being in a league of its own. The chuck tends to hold drill bits well so long as they are smaller than 3/8" or 10mm. When using larger drill bits or hole saw arbors if there is any vibration the chuck will loosen to the point that the bit or arbor falls out. This is when the DeWalt self-tightening chuck makes a real difference as it never lets go.

The second side handle can be rotated to any position like the DeWalt and Bosch drills and this makes it a lot more valuable when you really do need two hands to control the drill. The 90 degree side mount of the Milwaukee and Ridgid drills provide a lot less support for the drill.

I like the integrated drilling depth stop of the Makita. This is something that should be standard for all hammer drills but is usually omitted entirely -- you cannot even add one later if you want to with the hammer drills from DeWalt and Milwaukee).

The batteries charge in roughly 30 minutes on average and this is in the middle range as far as the other lithium-ion batteries and charger combinations from other manufacturers. A lot is made of how fast a battery recharges which misses the point. If the drill and battery are up to the task the battery will last and not require frequent recharging during the day. Faster charge times are likely to shorten the useful life of the battery so I for one would rather wait 10 more minutes and get an extra year or two of use out of the battery. Makita recommends that their 3 Ah batteries be charged and then left on the charger of another hour to cool them down before reusing them.

Battery charge life is greatly influenced by the hole cutter that is used - much more so than most people realize. I did a quick test by first charging the drill to 100% and then cutting a single 2" hole in 1-1/8" plywood and then timed how long it took to get the battery back up to full charge. By the time the hole has been cut, which took about 45 seconds, the wood was smoking. It took more than 20 minutes to get the battery back to a full charge. Using the Makita drill and a Blue Boar TCT hole cutter (my favorite hole saws) I cut a second 2" hole in the same board and it took only 4 seconds and the battery charge was hardly affected at all.

There are what my own experience has shown to be exaggerated claims on available drill torque and battery charge times while at the same time the manufacturers without exception don't appreciate how much the right hole cutter will improve the performance of their drills. They will rate their drills at 2" maximum hole saw size in wood or 1-7/8" with a self feed drill bit while missing entirely that the drills can make 6" holes with a modern big gullet hole saw (like the Blue Boar TCT or Milwaukee Big Hawg or Bosch TCHS) or even 10" diameter holes in TJI or wood with an adjustable hole cutter (like the ones from Hole Pro).

BLUE BOAR 3" (76mm) Super Duty Universal TCT 2-1/4" deep tungsten carbide hole saw cuts more materials faster than any other hole saw. Hard RA 90-91 carbide teeth for faster cutting and longer life, ultra deep side gullets for faster plug removal

Hole Pro X-230 Kit: 1-7/8" to 9" Infinitely Adjustable Twin Blade Hole Saw Cutter 3" 4" 5" 6" 7" 8" 9" Hole Wood Sheetrock Plaster Fiberglass Plastic MDF Cement Board. Use ¼ Torque of Hole Saw to Cut Twice As Fast

Milwaukee 49-56-9050 4-5/8-Inch Big Hawg Hole Cutter

Bosch HTC300 3-Inch 76mm TCHS Hole Saw

Many of the complaints about cordless drill performance are based on real experience but often without the user realizing that they were not using the drill so as to get the most performance possible from the tool. Cordless drills that depend upon a battery for power cannot be used the same way as a corded drill plugged into an outlet and get the same level of performance. The drawbacks of using a cordless drill can be largely overcome by using them with a bit more finesse and using modern hole cutters. I can make a larger hole in inch thick subflooring using an 18 volt cordless drill like the Makita BHP451 than I can using a bi-metal hole saw with a 15 amp corded stud drill.

People should focus less on "what is the best cordless drill" and more on what are best hole cutters to use with a cordless drill. They would save themselves money and time and aggravation. There is no best cordless drill as there are strengths and weaknesses with every manufacturers products and it is really a matter of what features are most important and which flaws you can easily overlook. Fortunately there is intense competition and as a result all the cordless tools keep getting better and better. For light duty use the Milwaukee 2602 (not the 2602CT) is a great drill and for heavy duty use the DeWalt drills cannot be beat but for Makita fans and light to medium jobs the BHP451 is a good performer.Get more detail about Makita BHP451 LXT 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Hammer Drill/Driver.

Bosch PS10-2 Litheon 10.8-volt Lithium-Ion I-Driver Kit Top Quality

This is one of those tools that at first look you might think you don't really need, but if you do a lot of installation work you'll find this very useful for situations where any normal drill/driver just simply won't fit. I've used it to fasten conduit clamps above heating and air-conditioning ducts, drawer slides inside narrow cabinets, repairing equipment with very tight access to fasteners, and it works fine for normal use as well. I've also used it to quickly install all of the duplex outlets, switches and wall plates when I'm doing finish electrical work.

The 10.8 volt version of this tool will also work with the new 12 volt batteries if you happen to have another small format Bosch tool that used them. By the way, I have the newer 12 volt version of this tool.Get more detail about Bosch PS10-2 Litheon 10.8-volt Lithium-Ion I-Driver Kit.

Bosch OSC112 1-1/2-Inch by 1-5/8-Inch HCS Plunge Cut Blade This instant

There are a lot of similar looking blades out there ranging from the one at Harbor Freight, which cost $5.99 including two scraper blades, to the extremely overpriced Fein blades. When Fein had a patent in force, they were able to get away with a very high price. But how does Bosch justify it? They are cheaper than Fein, and that's about it.

I figured I'd give this blade a try since the ones from Harbor Freight wear out faster than I'd like. This blade is nice since it has laser etching, making it easier to make fixed depth plunge cuts. Unfortunately, the blade life seems about the same as the Harbor Freight blade. It might be a bit better, but I'd rather have three of the others, and six scrapers for the same price. If you hit one nail with this, you will kill some of the teeth. Even if this one lasts 300% as long, I'd rather have a stray nail leave me with two untouched blades.

Bosch makes many kinds of blades including BIM, which last 10 times longer than HCS, according to Bosch. They seem to be justifying HCS since this is a wood blade. But BiM works with soft and hard woods. At a $27 list price, it's absurd to say that they are justified to skimp, or call HCS the industry standard. It's not the standard for blades of this price.

There is nothing special about the blade itself, except that it's shaped to fit a multi purpose tool. At this price, they should be giving the customer a pack of 10, as they would with similar blades.

Even Harbor Freight is playing games. $5.99 looks cheap for a three pack of blades, but each time you need a plunge cut blade, you are forced to buy two scrapers. I'd prefer to pay $1.99 each, which is still pricey for a single saw blade.

Ultimately, you get what might be a $2 blade, were it designed to be used with a different tool. At that price, I'd recommend it over a generic blade.Get more detail about Bosch OSC112 1-1/2-Inch by 1-5/8-Inch HCS Plunge Cut Blade.

Factory-Reconditioned Bare-Tool Milwaukee 2471-80 12-Volt Cordless M12 Lithium-Ion Copper Tubing Cutter (Tool Only, No Battery) Immediately

I've purchased this item twice from Home Depot and returned both and bought this current refurbished one. The refurbished one stopped working on day two before the initial battery was finished with its' first charge. The first one from Home Depot did the same thing on day two shortly after the second charged battery was installed.
The second Home Depot tool started to run on the copper pipe on 1" signifigantly unless I held pressure against the direction it was running. It was like cutting a fine thread on a pipe machine for gas installation. The gentleman who made the review was correct about buying one for each of three trucks twice in a 14 day period. He is not exaggerating one bit and learn from our misfortune. It's not so much that it is made in China than it is poorly engineered and happens to be Milwaukee's big lemon that they should take off the shelves until they work out the kinks. I'm very careful with my refurbished one since I received it from the repair shop and I get the feeling it will last very shortly until it goes out. I definetly do not misuse the tool and have 29 years plumbing experience and use other M12 tools with no problems. The people who have good reviews just made their review to early in my opinion. Great tool I must say when it works. My fellow plumbers have lost interest in it since I've returned them and one co-worker saw it die right in front of me. Bare-Tool DEWALT DC900 Cordless Hammer Drill 36 Volts 1/2" 36v (Tool Only, No Battery) Best Quality

I bought the 36v kit about 3yrs ago. The drill has seen alot of use and has performed very well, I agree that a hook on the drill would really be a plus. The batteries that came with the kit have required less recharging than my 18v Dewalt tools have. the light in the kit is very bright, I only wish that Dewalt would make an LED version. They last alot longer and don't require bulb changes. Dewalt needs to change the design of the plastic kit case, or have a diagram on the inside of the case telling how to fit it back in there----> when you're in a hurry to gather your tools, you don't want to have to spend much time figuring how they fit in the case. I have only used the saws a few times,as compared to the drill and light, but when I use them I use them for tough jobs that require alot of power, and I'm happy to say that thay deliver!Get more detail about Bare-Tool DEWALT DC900 Cordless Hammer Drill 36 Volts 1/2" 36v (Tool Only, No Battery).

Makita BPB180 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Portable Band Saw Kit Decide Now

Being an industrial (IBEW) electrician, I have fallen in love with the first battery operated band saw that can give the "plug ins" a run for the money. This item is powerful, cuts 4" pipe with little to no trouble, and the LiIon battery is very impressive in the longevity department.

I just wish it was available in a "softside" bag instead of the hard case container it comes with (as it takes up a huge amount of room!).Get more detail about Makita BPB180 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Portable Band Saw Kit.

Cheapest Milwaukee 0879-22 18-Volt Cordless V18 Lithium-Ion 1/2-Inch Impact Wrench with Case

I have a 2003 GMC Diesel 1 ton "dually" with 6 aggressive off road style tires. These tires need to be rotated frequently to get the maximum life out of them, the front tires on my truck wear "funny" if I don't rotate them, probably due to the aggressive tread pattern and the weight from the diesel engine, 4,000 lbs on the front axle empty. This tool makes a hard and tedious task almost fun. I only drive this truck when I need to do "1 ton work" so it doesn't get a lot of miles on it, I think it only has about 30K on it now, so the lug nuts get a good chance to rust/weld themselves in place between rotations. The Milwaukee impact has never failed to remove and replace all the wheels on a single battery charge! The first time I rotated the wheels they had been on about 5 years and I thought that there was no way that this little battery operated toy of a tool would take them off....so I got out my 24" breaker bar and prepared to do battle, I had been down this road before.....it spun all the factory installed lug nuts off without hesitation. I couldn't believe it! This is one of the best labor saving (grunt and sweat) tools I have ever bought. It exceeds my expectations. It does a lot of work on a battery charge. I am sure that some day I will find something that it needs help with and I will break out the huge breaker bar and extension...but it hasn't happened yet. If it ever does I will update this review.

Update

I used this tool today to dissassemble my rather large boat trailer that was in my barn fire. Taking it apart was the only way I was able to move it since the tounge was twisted and the wheels were siezed on the axels. It spun out all the rusted bolts even the axel/spring hanger bolts without breaking a sweat. I carried the entire trailer out by hand after breaking it down to its individule components. The trailer has been sitting in the weather for about a month and has become very rusty. It was one of the last items to be cleaned up because I couldn't figure out how to move it. I love this tool.

Update #2

I have a 60" Zero turn mower. It has 3 blades that are held on with 3 bolts each. It weighs 900 lbs. I can only jack it up 19 inches to get the blades off. This tool spins them off in an instant for sharpening. It is a bit heavy when used at an arms length under a mower deck but it sure gets the job done in a hurry, it is at least ten times faster than using a braker bar, socket and ratchet, and due to the impact action I don't have to lock the blades in place with blocks of wood. If you have a lot of blades to change you might want to look at one of these.

Buying Festool T 15+3 Li-Ion 2.6 Ah Cordless Drill/Driver

This is without question the most well constructed and engineered power tool I've ever owned and it's the best performing cordless drill I've used in my work.

It easily outperforms my previous Bosch and Makita cordless drills and it even shows more steady power than the old lame DeWalt corded drill I inherited.

Of course the price is proportional - but I have to say that these days that's as it should be. And frankly, I'm willing to pay extra to a manufacturer who builds a stellar product. Festool is one of those companies.

I don't see why I'd invest in any other type of cordless drill after using this one. I expect the drill to last me for years, likely a decade or longer, so it's likely a moot point.

But should you buy one? All I can say is if you do you won't be disappointed.Get more detail about Festool T 15+3 Li-Ion 2.6 Ah Cordless Drill/Driver.

Buy Ridgid R86006 33218 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Drill

I bought this drill to replace a drill for which I was disappointed with, and it was a fantastic buy. The drill is very light in weight and the battery provides plenty of power. Everything out of the box was in great shape and worked liked a dream. The storage bag and the light on the drill are nice perks. The drill has been accidentally dropped from atop high ladders to the ground and it continues to work flawlessly. Highly recommend this drill to any DIY and pro!Get more detail about Ridgid R86006 33218 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Drill.

Order Rockwell RK2800K2 18-Volt Lithiumtech Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Driver

I have been looking at cordless Impact drivers for over a year now. I recently purchased the 18 volt Rockwell model RK2800K2. The package/case comes with the drill, two batteries, charger, and two drill bits (a square drive and a phillips). It is noticeably lighter drill, the packaging states it is 40% lighter. The charger is well designed and can be hung on a wall or set on a table at different angles.

The batteries last 3 times longer then regular batteries. The lithium-ion batteries charge fast. The drill fits in my hand nicely and the Rockwell is easier to handle than my Dewalt cordless. I have used it to screw in numerous different types of screws and I have been very satisfied with the Rockwell's performance. I even used it with my Kreg pocket hole screws projects. Another buying point is Rockwell has a lifetime FREE battery replacement program with this product. Note: you must register the drill within 90 days of purchase to be eligible for the free batteries. If you are looking for an impact driver, buy this drill, you will not be disappointed.Get more detail about Rockwell RK2800K2 18-Volt Lithiumtech Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Driver.

Where To Buy Bosch 37618-01 18-Volt 1/2-Inch Brute Tough Litheon Drill/Driver with 2-Fat Batteries

The first time I picked up the Bosch I found that it fit my hand like a glove with its new handle design. The people at Bosch did a great job of designing a drill that feels like it is lighter than it is and yet provides a reported 650 inch pounds of torque. How much power these drills really deliver is another story but the Bosch 37618 (clever naming) is definitely in the same power league as the DeWalt DCD970 and the Milwaukee 2611.

The drill chuck is the best I have seen with any drill I have used over the past 20 years by a wide margin. There is absolutely no runout and in operation it feels smooth as silk. It holds bits very well and does not loosen with vibration which is a problem I have experienced with the Hitachi drill chucks and to a lesser degree the Makita chucks.

The side handle can be positioned anywhere that works the best and this is important to me as I often am using the the drill in a tight space where the side handle cannot be straight out from the side. Makita and DeWalt has also stuck with this design and as the saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it.

The lithium batteries provide a lot of charge and are above average in performance. Bosch like everyone else also makes half size batteries but in my experience in high torque use the smaller batteries last about 1/4 as long for some reason. Recharge time is average which is an area where too much emphasis is placed anyway. Faster charges with NiCad and NiMh batteries shortened their life dramatically so charging a lithium ion battery in half the time as claimed by some like Makita, may not be good for the health of the batteries which are not cheap to replace.

Torque is very good with the low speed high torque setting and is great for most situations but not all. When using a medium to large hole cutter a medium torque and speed range setting (as provided by DeWalt with the DCD970) is usually the best in terms of speed and clean cutting without a lot of power cutouts. Lithium ion battery packs cut power to the motor when they sense to much draw is occurring. When this happens if feels like the clutch is slipping severely and the drill chatters. This is quite apparent with the Milwaukee 2601 and the consumer grade Makita BDF452HW drills and the Hitachi drills we have.

With cordless there are more things to consider than with a corded drill and when you add lithium ion batteries to the mix the actual power on the job to the drill bit varies a great deal between the different drills we use. Driving screws or drilling small holes in masonry and the difference is hard to notice and a lightweight 18v or even a 12v drill may get it done. When boring large 3" to 6" holes in wood or masonry the top of the line drills like the Bosch 37618 are the best tool for the job if you want to use a cordless lithium ion powered drill.

My guys saw a big difference in drill performance when we switched first to using the Milwaukee Big Hawg hole cutters and then later to the Blue Boar TCT hole cutters. They could cut a hole more than twice as large but they had to pay more attention to drill speed and the torque setting. This Bosch is capable of making 6" holes in thick plywood and even in brick veneer on OSB when used with the right hole cutter. If you instead use self feed bits or bi-metal hole saws your results will suffer along with the drill speed and the number or holes per battery charge will be a whole lot less.

BLUE BOAR TSF12 12 Piece High Performance Tungsten Carbide Hole Saw kit 2-1/4" Cut Depth. Cut 10x as fast and using 1/40th the battery power. Cordless Drills cut holes 3x as large versus bi-metal hole saws. Deep side gullets for fast plug removal

This is one drill that you need to go to a store and pickup and feel its heft in your hand and if possible run the drill and you will want one whether you actually need a new drill. If choosing another lighter and lower power lithium ion powered drill be aware that lithium adds to the potential power available but it also reduces significantly the peak power available to the drill motor. In high torque = high current draw situations the difference will be most noticeable and have the greatest impact on drill performance. Best to have as much power as you can find in an 18 volt drill if you want one drill you can use for everything. This Bosch is one of very few that I can unreservedly recommend.Get more detail about Bosch 37618-01 18-Volt 1/2-Inch Brute Tough Litheon Drill/Driver with 2-Fat Batteries.

Shop For DEWALT DCX4230 18-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Hammerdrill / Impact Driver Combo Kit with NANO Technology

I am an commercial electrician, an have used a good variety of tools. The only tools that seem to stick around for more than two years are the dewalts. The new Nano batteries are a huge benefit. No longer does the drill slowly loose power causing you to switch out the battery pre-maturely causing a short cycle, and shortening the life of the battery's life.

Yes they do just "Shut Off" That is to protect the battery. Once a Li-Po battery gets bellow 3.2volts per cell it will damage the battery. So the tool shuts off to protect the battery, and your investment. Because a Li-Po battery gives almost full output the entire length of the charge you will not hear the drill getting tiered and slow. Also Li-Po's can be charged at anytime of its cycle, and it will not hurt the battery. Li-Pos are supposed to have 300 complete cycles in them before run times get shorter. Only time will tell.

This is a great all around tool and investment. I highly recommend it!

I selected this item to test out for trail work (quarrying rock) with a 3/4" bit and plugs and feathers(minis)with all hopes that it (like some reviews on similar li-on roto hammers) would be favored over my china made gas powered rotary hammer. one battery is good for 2(qty), 3/4"(diameter), 7"(depth) drill holes in granite. So for me to hike up 20 batteries ,or a whole solar/w/Zatrac system to keep a few batteries for up to four miles just doesnt seem worth it, for a whole days worth of drilling. You see roto hammers in Yosemite National Park are being sought out as an alternative to the Poinjar rock drill for safety reasons (cilica over exposure limits). In my 12th season I bought a gas roto hammer and love it. it is light weight, drills fast, and uses less than a quart of fuel mix on even a heavier used day I am not so thrilled about this product for practicality reasons. this product might be good for lighter applications, or if you have a few on different chargers that you can just walk 100 feet or so and change out. For remote trail work or similar applications, don't throw your money away on this one.

Milwaukee 0721-21 V28 28-Volt Lithium-Ion 1/2-Inch Cordless Right Angle Drill/Driver Kit Review

It is not a total substitute for a permanent power winch on a 43' sailboat. Easy operation for the initial grinding on the main halyard or a jib sheet but will fault out (stop) when it gets close to the end (last 4-6 feet). Easy to handle as long as the winch is self-tailing.Get more detail about Milwaukee 0721-21 V28 28-Volt Lithium-Ion 1/2-Inch Cordless Right Angle Drill/Driver Kit.

Bosch 17618-01 18-Volt 1/2-Inch Brute Tough Litheon Hammer Drill/Driver with 2 Fat Batteries Top Quality

This is a positive review for Bosch tools. The problems I had are because of my own lack of knowledge. I did a reasonably good search for information; just not quite good enough. That cost me a lot of time, so I decided to write this; because I didn't encounter information, even in Wikipedia, that really enabled me to understand what tool I needed for my application.

My son and I wanted to build a deck together. The location is bounded on two sides by concrete foundation, so we decided to put in about 50 feet of pressure-treated 2x10 for a ledger. This was to be attached to the 30-year-old concrete foundation by 20 or so 1/2-inch anchor bolts drilled in about 3.5 inches. The concrete contains quartzite gravel and also plenty of rebar.

This is the environment into which the Bosch Brute-tough hammer drill with a Bosch carbide SDS+ 1/2-inch bit was placed into service. The drill became inoperative, (I think because of dust contamintation), within two days after drilling only 5 holes. Two days of use but 30+ days of ownership, so the drill couldn't be returned. I called Bosch support and they registered my drill for their 3 year support program that includes 1 year of tool replacement - all for free! The second drill came in about a week, but it too became inoperable within one day after drilling only 2 holes. I called Bosch again and this time asked what I was doing wrong. The support person left me on hold to ask someone else about the problem and upon returning said, "This drill isn't right for your application. You need a rotary hammer." He then sent me a 3rd drill, 2nd day air at Bosch's expense. This third drill is not going near any concrete foundations, needless to say. It is a very powerful chordless drill quite useful for the proper application; like drilling holes in wet pressure-treated lumber or driving half-inch hex head wood screws. I also don't see how Bosch support could be much better. Therefore, I recently bought a factory-Reconditioned Bosch 11224VSR-46 6.9 Amp 7/8-Inch SDS Rotary Hammer for $140.00 from Amazon that I haven't had time yet to receive.

Anyway, this is what is in a name in the American retail market. Brute tough hammer drill, concrete mutilator ultimate destruction drill, girly man fierce hammer drill; they're all the same - drills. Those other words don't legally have any meaning. In the case of the Bosch hammer drill the action is more back-and-forth than really hammering. In contrast, the specs of the 11224VSR rotary hammer address all of the issues that I was having with the 17618; a mechanism to properly break through the concrete at a good rate, a chuck that holds the bit without it slipping and which allows the bit to move freely in an inline hammering motion separate from the chuck, a design that keeps concrete dust out and minimizes vibration, and so on. It's probably not as convenient for drill or driver work compared to the Bosch 17618, but it is appropriate for the concrete work that I need to do. At the time I bought the hammer drill I didn't know what a rotary hammer was.Get more detail about Bosch 17618-01 18-Volt 1/2-Inch Brute Tough Litheon Hammer Drill/Driver with 2 Fat Batteries.

Panasonic EYC143B 14-2/5-Volt Cordless Lithium Ion Impact Wrench/Drill and Driver Combo Kit with Light This instant

I am very happy with this tool set. I got this to replace my 15.6v panasonic drill that I was also very happy with. The new 14.4v tools are well made and designed. They are compact, lightweight, and well balanced. They are everything you would expect from panasonic. This review will mostly cover info that I was not able to find in the tools description.

The drill is compact and powerful with excellent speed control. The light on the base turns on and off with a button, it will turn off automatically if left on. It will not turn on automatically when the trigger is pulled like the mikita drill.

The flashlight is nice and fits in the drills hard plastic case. It comes with a spare bulb inside the light. It has a low battery warning light.

The impact wrench is my new favorite tool. It puts out about 136 ft/lbs. It is a ½ in impact wrench that comes with an adapter to a ¼ in. quick connect to make it function as an impact driver. It has incredible control, I went from taking lug nuts off my truck to setting a sheetrock screw perfectly with the same tool. I am very impressed with the power of this small cordless tool. It also has a light on the base.

The hard plastic case is well made and durable. It has better latches then the 15.6v case. The case holds the flashlight, charger, extra battery, and ether the drill or the impact wrench. There is room for some small bits in the case. It is about the same size as the 15.6v drill case

This kit also comes with a medium sized gate mouth tool bag with a panasonic logo in it and a clear plastic storage case with several compartments that could fit in the flashlights space in the drill case.Get more detail about Panasonic EYC143B 14-2/5-Volt Cordless Lithium Ion Impact Wrench/Drill and Driver Combo Kit with Light.

Dremel 875-01 12V Max 1.3ah Li-Ion Battery Immediately

the cordless dremel is great... being able to twist it upside down to get into tight spots while not worrying about cutting the cable... but the battery ALWAYS wears out right in the middle of inspiration. waiting to charge the battery is a huge hassle. I bought this battery after the first time i used the dremel... they really should include an extra battery in the original packaging, even if it costs more. the product has a major flaw without a spare battery ready to go.Get more detail about Dremel 875-01 12V Max 1.3ah Li-Ion Battery.

Craftsman 12 Volt Lithium-Ion Auto Hammer Best Quality

It's a terrific tool if you have to do a lot of finish carpentry. I picked up a reconditioned one to use for tongue & groove pine siding and crown molding on the perpetual DYI home remodeling job. I've never drained the battery until it quit and have used it for up to 4 hours at a time. I probably would have got a palm nailer and a compressor had I not been able to find this for under $70. Getting a compressor is a big negative for me, as they're a pain to drag around and store, and I would end up spending tons of money on other pneumatic tools. Of course then I'd be able to drive bigger nails! Actually I'd love a compressor and all those air tools, the wife won't allow it. If you're planning on driving more than 2-1/2" 8d common nails you'll have to go pneumatic or do it the old fashioned way. For driving up to 2" finishing nails this tool is great. I imagine it handles most roofing nails easily, but I can do those faster with a hammer. It doesn't hurt anything if you miss except your thumb. It's as loud or louder than a palm nailer so you should wear a good set of headphones with your favorite music cranked up to maximum volume. Safety first! According to reviews I've seen in tool magazines the Ryobi Autohammer is almost identical to this. It has the same limitations, but it can be purchased for quite a bit less on Amazon. They should call these things Finish Auto Hammers. Then less people would buy and return them when they discover they can't use them as frame hammers.Get more detail about Craftsman 12 Volt Lithium-Ion Auto Hammer.

I had seen this light offered as a part of a set of tools quite a few times; however, I had no need for the rest of the set. When I saw this light on Amazon, I grabbed it. I have other 18V One+ Ryobi tools, so the light fits right in because I also have extra batteries. The flash light works like, well a flashlight! No problems and I use it for the purpose intended. The light is bright and relatively lite weight if you use the small lithium ion battery.Get more detail about Ryobi Light 18V ONE+ Lithium Ion Work Light (battery and charger not included).

DEWALT DCX6210 36-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Hammerdrill/Reciprocating Saw Combo Kit with NANO Technology Buy Now

This is not for a homeowner who wants to dink around on a weekend drawer fixing project. This is SERIOUS POWER for heavy duty industrial jobsites. As an electrician, I use this power all day everyday with 18"x1" or 1-1/8" Ship Auger bits through 2x4's and 2x6's. It can take the beating day in and day out without fail like no other tool I've found in cordless. The li-ion battery makes the equivellant weight of ni-cad in half the voltage. Perhaps that negative reviewer may want to try an 18 volt li-ion to better handle the weight issue, but still wants power.Get more detail about DEWALT DCX6210 36-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Hammerdrill/Reciprocating Saw Combo Kit with NANO Technology.

Skil SB18B-LI 18-Volt 1.3Ahr Li-Ion Battery Kit Decide Now

A nice option to buying a new set of lithium tools, at least for my needs. So far, so good. These batteries are easy to remove, unlike the old ni-cad batteries which became impossible. They seem more powerful, and hold a charge well. Run time seems good, and they charge quickly. Being half the size and weight as the ni-cads is also a plus.

I don't think that most people are going to want to invest more money in 2 batteries and a charger than they paid for a complete tool set, but I like the tools (even though the color design Skil used makes them look like a kid's toy raygun), and I especially like the drill and circular saw. I didn't want to just throw the set away. Also, this is the only cordless brand I've seen where the circular saw's blade is on the right, which works for southpaws. I can see the line as I cut. Re-use made sense for me, anyway, since I can't easily or cheaply replace the lefty saw.Get more detail about Skil SB18B-LI 18-Volt 1.3Ahr Li-Ion Battery Kit.

Discount DEWALT DCX5401 28-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Hammerdrill/Circ/Recip/Floodlight Combo Kit with NANO Technology

I use my tools everyday doing remolding. Over the last ten years I have used 18 volt XRP Dewalt tools and been extremely happy. When I decided to replace my present tools, I went with the 28v tools for the longer run-time. My only concern when ordering the tools was the weight of the drill--this is not a concern now that I have started using it--the weight is about the same as the drill I am replacing. The extra run-time is nice--charging the batteries less means they will last longer and less down time changing batteries, especially when I am up on scaffolding. I wish I had bought these years ago. I would recommend these to anyone that uses the tools everyday.Get more detail about DEWALT DCX5401 28-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Hammerdrill/Circ/Recip/Floodlight Combo Kit with NANO Technology.

Cheapest Bosch 36614-02 1/2-Inch 14-2/5-Volt Compact-Tough Litheon Drill/Driver with 2-Slim Batteries

There are those who are loyal to Milwaukee or DeWalt, but they are probably not up-to-date on what is being offered. I have carefully checked specs on cordless drills--and so should you. You will find that Bosch offers more torque than it's competitors and is usually lower priced. This drill is terrific. Much lighter and smaller than the old Ni-cad battery Bosch I used to have. I loved the little 12 volt, but if you do much with large drill bits or forstner bits you will need this 14.4 volt. I used to have lots of color in my tools: Milwaukee red, DeWalt yellow, and so on. Now I see a shelf of blue. I have not been disappointed in any of my Bosch purchases. I have 3 drills, 3 routers, 2 sanders, and a jig saw. When I replace my circular saw I will look first at Bosch.Get more detail about Bosch 36614-02 1/2-Inch 14-2/5-Volt Compact-Tough Litheon Drill/Driver with 2-Slim Batteries.

Cheap Makita LXT211 LXT211X1 18v LXT 2-Tool Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill/Impact Combo Kit w/ FREE Battery

I compare this to the Festool drill and i'm very impressed with the driver and yet quite disappointed that Makita does not include a bit holder on their tools, That's just cheap and lame. I'm over it.
I bought this at the local hardware store annual sale on April 11th. I was floored to find i paid 280.49 + 9.5% tax on it, cheaper than amazon! While i had bought and reviewed the 10 V driver combo about 6 moths ago and was deluged with hate mail for expecting a company to make a decent box, i realized after talking with the reps at the show that the one Amazon sent me did not have the full foam inserts, anyway, a different story. The Makita reps seemed extremely non-pulsed that anyone would criticize their products. When i talked about it they steered me too this combo and i must say i'm quite satisfied.

The 18 volt Makita drills and drivers seem to be top notch and deliver excess power, torque and i love the LED lights, very useful. there are allot of small features that work with these tools, especially the light and I bought the 62 pc drill driver bit set. They work well together.
I've used both tools a bit around the house and doing some light remodeling and have no complaint. I'm still working on the factory charge and i'm definitely going to try to take it easy recharging the batteries as they do have a limited, if unknown, number of charge cycles.
I went on E-bay and found the cool flashlight florescent work light for $40 bucks and i like that as well. No point having 3 batteries and nothing to use them with.

I hope your be as satisfied with this tool combination as i am. While i'm still lusting over the Festool drill with 3 heads, i've no real use for them and this combo kicks but drilling and driving scarfs into old framing on my '60s house prior to installing crown.
I'll amend the review as i use it more for driving finish head screws through maple nosing (so far so good) i did pre-drill but that's the beauty of two tools and the Makita (or ryobi) drive bit sets.

4 stars due to lack of bit holder. Also the bit set does not hold the bits as well as it could and it' does not fit in the case with the charger and extra batteries.

Manufacturers could spend a little more time engineering these cases for space utilization and long term performance.Get more detail about Makita LXT211 LXT211X1 18v LXT 2-Tool Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill/Impact Combo Kit w/ FREE Battery.

Buying Bare-Tool Milwaukee 0824-20 18-Volt Cordless V18 Lithium-Ion 1/2-Inch Hammer Drill (Tool Only, No Battery)

I like lighter duty hammer drills like this one from Milwaukee as I can turn off the hammer action and just use it as a drill. With the heavy duty commercial hammer drills I can turn off the rotation but not the hammer action and for some drill bits the hammer action will quickly destroy the drill's cutting tips or even knock them off (as they are brazed onto the tool). The hammer action of this drill is adequate for small holes in masonry which is where we have used this drill. For large holes we have moved away from the TCT core drills to the laser welded dry cutting diamond core bits, like the ones from Blue Boar and Husqvarna, where no hammer action is needed or recommended.

The drill is an excellent drill though a bit on the heavy side for extended overhead use (where a Makita is a better choice). The best feature of the drill is its ability to use old NiCads that I had from an older Milwaukee 18v drill. Milwaukee has recently started to sell its new "M series" lithium-ion cordless which are replacing the old "V series" drills like this one. The "V" drills work with either the V lithium-ion batteries or the old NiCad batteries, but the new "M" drills work only with the new "M" type lithium-ion batteries.

Over time it will become more difficult to find the "V" batteries as this was a pretty short model run by Milwaukee. Anyone buying a drill they want to be able to use and get new batteries for over the next 5-10 years would be better off getting the M18 or another brand that is more stable in this regard.

One aspect of this drill that is much better over the new M18 is the design of the second handle which can be positioned (like the DeWalt XRP) anywhere in a 360 degree arc. The new M18 side handle has to be 90 degrees, left or right side, to the drill handle is quite a bit more limiting.

A nice aspect of the new Milwaukee M18 lithium-ion drills is that there are 2 different sizes of power packs so a lighter one can be used by many people who will not need the amps of the full pack and have a lighter drill to work with and the recharge times are half as long for the smaller battery packs. Something that is a little curious is that the Makita lithium-ion battery packs charge in 15 minutes while the small Milwaukee M-type battery packs take 30 minutes and the large battery packs take over an hour to charge.

For most people the full kit will be a better deal but if you have an old Milwaukee 18v NiCad drill and want to gradually ease into lithium-ion this would on the surface seem like a good approach. Unfortunately with the new M-type drills that will not work with either Milwaukee Ni-Cad or Milwaukee V-type lithium ion batteries, this drill is a bit of a dead end and a dubious investment over the long run.

Having been bit in the past by manufacturers that stopped producing batteries for early NiCad drivers and drills I am now much more cautious and want to verify the easy availability of replacement batteries (at local stores) before making a purchase decision. Whether Makita products are better or not is up for debate but their replacement batteries have the widest distribution of any manufacturer which should be a consideration.

If you are chucking your old NiCad batteries there are places including Home Depot that have recycling bins which keeps the deadly cadmium out of local landfills and the water supply.

Buy Denali 3.6V Lithium-Ion Cordless Screwdriver Kit

I bought this item as a gift for my father who is constantly using a screwdriver, both for work and just tinkering in his shop. He told me, after he'd used it for a few weeks that it is extremely handy for small, dark spaces because of its' size and the light on the front that illuminates the area you're working in. Battery life is fantastic even with a heavy workload, and despite the small size it has plenty of torque for most uses.Get more detail about Denali 3.6V Lithium-Ion Cordless Screwdriver Kit.

Purchase Bare-Tool Makita BSS501Z 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 5-3/8-Inch Circular Trim Saw (Tool Only, No Battery)

Smooth operator. I love this Makita saw. It has served me well. I use it for many different things from cutting 2x material to cutting trim and hardwoods. The stock blade is ok and will last a little while. I have freud blades in mine and love the silky smooth operation and consistent power.

The blade guard rarely gets in the way and is easy to to raise. The bevel and depth adjustments are easy to reach and operate and hold well. The sole plate is sturdy and maintains its position well. The LED light is a nice touch. It only comes on while the trigger is depressed unlike Makita's cordless drills which have a slow ramping off feature that slowly dims the LED after the trigger is released which makes for a nice flashlight. I guess you shouldn't be expecting to use your cordless saw as a light source anyway.

The battery last a long while on a full charge. You can saw thru a good amount of wood with a thin kerf blade. I've cut over 50 2x6's on a single charge.

I've had mine for over a year now and it's been a dream to use. I wouldn't trade it for anything else.Get more detail about Bare-Tool Makita BSS501Z 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 5-3/8-Inch Circular Trim Saw (Tool Only, No Battery).

I love this impact. It is every bit as good as a snap on impact I borrowed from a friend. yesterday I did two vehicles ,one was a snap the other had studs on it that had been over tightened and rust as well and after I was done the battery still had two full bars left. I am impressed with the power and the way I can change the position of the battery. I now own three Milwaulkee V28 sawsalls and now this V28 1/2 inch impact.
